The central difference
Token Plan Individual is a Credits-based subscription spanning supported text, visual-understanding, image and video models, plus Harness tools. Coding Plan is a $50-per-month subscription focused on supported text and vision models inside AI programming tools, with its quotas measured in model calls.
Both products issue a dedicated plan key and dedicated base URL. Both restrict that key to the subscriber's interactive use and prohibit automated scripts, application backends and other non-interactive scenarios. The choice is therefore not 'subscription versus API.' It is which interactive subscription structure and model roster better matches one developer's work.
Billing units and quota mechanics
Individual deducts Credits dynamically according to model type, token usage, thinking mode and tool calls. Its Lite, Standard and Pro tiers enforce five-hour and seven-day fixed windows. The first invocation starts each timer; the complete quota resets when that period ends, and reaching either limit pauses service.
Coding Plan currently publishes 6,000 requests per five hours, 45,000 per week and 90,000 per month. A user-visible query can consume several model calls: Alibaba says simple tasks typically involve five to ten calls and complex tasks may require ten to thirty or more. Its five-hour quota replenishes as usage from exactly five hours earlier returns, its weekly quota resets Monday at 00:00 UTC+8, and its monthly quota resets on the subscription renewal date.
Credits and Coding Plan calls are different units. Dividing one plan's allowance by the other's cannot produce a meaningful capacity comparison without measuring the same real task in both products.
Model and modality coverage
Individual's exact current allowlist includes Qwen3.8 Max Preview, Qwen3.7 models, Qwen3.6 Flash, GLM-5.2, DeepSeek-V4-Pro, two Wan 2.7 image models and three HappyHorse 1.1 video routes. It also documents web search, two image-search tools, web scraping and code interpreter.
Coding Plan's current recommended list includes Qwen3.7 Plus, Qwen3.6 Plus, Kimi K2.5, GLM-5 and MiniMax-M2.5, with additional exact model IDs published on the plan page. This is a coding-oriented roster rather than the Individual media-generation list. Exact-string matching matters in both products: a related version or alias is not supported unless it appears in the relevant allowlist.
Price and plan shape
Individual currently advertises limited-time monthly prices of $6 for Lite, $18 for Standard and $68 for Pro. The tiers increase five-hour and seven-day Credit limits and recommended concurrent-agent ranges. Promotions can change and should be checked on the official page before checkout.
Coding Plan currently has one plan available to new subscribers at $50 per month. Alibaba discontinued new Coding Plan Lite subscriptions in March 2026 and later stopped its renewals and upgrades; existing Lite customers can use it until expiration. Coding Plan slots are limited and replenished daily on a first-come basis.
Coding Plan is described as non-refundable. Individual documentation says cancellation is not currently supported, although auto-renewal can be disabled. These are distinct purchase terms, not interchangeable wording.
Keys, endpoints and unexpected charges
Each plan's key begins with the plan-specific sk-sp- pattern and must be paired with that plan's URL. Individual publishes OpenAI-compatible and Anthropic-compatible endpoints under the token-plan.ap-southeast-1.maas.aliyuncs.com host. Coding Plan uses coding-intl.dashscope.aliyuncs.com endpoints.
A general Model Studio pay-as-you-go key and endpoint are separate. Alibaba warns that using the general pair instead of the Coding Plan pair creates pay-as-you-go charges. The same separation principle is documented for Individual: Token Plan, Coding Plan and pay-as-you-go keys and base URLs must not be mixed.
A practical decision rule
- Choose Individual when the current multimodal roster, Harness tools or a low entry tier matters, and fixed five-hour and seven-day Credit windows fit your usage.
- Choose Coding Plan when the focus is interactive programming with its published coding-model roster and call-based quotas, and the $50 plan is available.
- Compare exact model IDs before buying; brand-level compatibility is not enough.
- Use general pay-as-you-go Model Studio instead when code, a backend, CI, scheduled automation or a shared service will call the models.
